The New Team Member

Up until recently, the teams in our house have been equally divided. Two members on Team Special Club and two members on Team Normal. However, Team Special Club seems to have gained a new player.

I’ve said before that my oldest has some pretty significant abilities, but my youngest seemed to be more like his dad. And that was fine with us. Dad was excited to have someone on his team.

Since the youngest has become more verbal, he has talked occasionally about things he has seen or people he’s spoken to (that no one else seems to see). I have always attributed this to him over hearing his big brother and wanting to be like him. Or maybe he thought we were all pretending. He’s very creative that way. When speaking of these things, he never presented information in a way that led us to believe he was bothered or scared at all. It has all been very matter of fact. Which is very unlike his brother’s accounts.

They are obviously handling this very differently. They do everything else differently, so why should I expect anything else?

An experience recently just tipped the scales for me and he proved himself.

Here in our small town, we have a restaurant that has a ghost of a little blonde girl, let’s say about 8 years old. She is frequently mischievous and has been sighted and described the same way on several different occasions.

I had taken just the youngest up to have dinner at this restaurant with a friend a couple of weeks ago. I parked his stroller next to the high chair at the table. After a few minutes there, he began shouting things at his stroller such as, “That’s mine!” and “You get outta there!” and so one. He seemed genuinely distraught and very serious with his commands. And since I personally didn’t see what he was yelling at, I asked him at who he was yelling. His reply was, “That ghost! She’s in my stroller!”. So I then asked for a description from him about what this ghost girl looked like. His reply was simply (as his verbal skills are at his age level of almost 3 years old), “Calli”. This name belongs to one of his cousins that pretty much fits the description of the little girl sighted in this establishment from time to time.

What actually caught me off guard, is that he referred to her as a “ghost”. How did he know that? As a child, I was much older before I realized the difference, and my oldest still has trouble discerning at times. I was impressed.

So, I guess the new roster is:

Team Special Club – three.

Team Normal – just one.
